CONCERTS
Sunday Afternoon, 14 February 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
Goshen College - Rieth Recital Hall (Goshen College Music Center)
Goshen, Indiana
I am pleased to be called on little more than 2 weeks advance notice, to provide this concert, which was originally booked with and to have been performed by University of Notre Dame organ professor Dr. Craig Cramer. Craig is taking time off these days, as his spouse, Gail Walton, who serves as music director and organist for the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame, took ill some months ago. Craig is attending to Gail as she receives an ongoing medical treatment, and of course, our prayers for the Cramer's comfort, and for Gail's complete recovery have been with Gail and Craig since we learned of the onset of Gail's illness.
This recital on St. Valentine's Day features the beautiful Taylor & Boody organ in Rieth Recital Hall. The hall boasts superb acoustics, and on this instrument, I shall provide a program not only of masterworks from the high baroque, but also a number of selections by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) whose 200th birthday we acknowledge in 2010. - FH

University of Scranton - The Houlihan McLean Center
University of Scranton Performing Arts Series
Scranton, Pennsylvania
I believe this is my 4th time in recital upon the mighty 1910 vintage, 4-manual Austin at the Houlihan McLean Center. We had a great time at the Pipedreams Live event held here a few years ago. I was thrilled to get the call to return again this March. I always love seeing the Scranton audience, especially the bright young university music students! - FH
Thursday Evening, 1 July 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, Chattanooga, Tennessee
The Chattanooga Music Club
Chattanooga, Tennessee
This is the venue and the organ (4-manual Austin) where Edwin Lemare - the world's greatest organist of his time (1880-1920) - once played regularly during the mid 1920s. The organ has been restored to great condition, and naturally, this program will feature some of the original organ music and organ transcriptions of Edwin Lemare. The program will also have a prominent patriotic theme, in keeping with the approaching 4th of July holiday weekend. The program is suited for the whole family, from age 8 to 108! We expect a sizable attendance. I'll post contact information by May 15, so you can inquire about seating and tickets. - FH

First Church of Christ
The Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival and Competition USA

I believe this shall be my 13th consecutive year serving as a Festival Artist and Competition Adjudicator for the Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival and Competition USA. The weekend opens with a festival concert, featuring the superb choir led by First Church of Chirst music director and organist, David Spicer. Joining me in the festival program this year will be Joyce Jones, a renown concert organist and instructor from Waco, Texas, and Charles Callahan, renown composer and organist from Orwell, Vermont. Dr. Jones, Dr. Callahan and I shall each be featured in a brief solo concert segment in the program.
The High School Division final competition is held on Saturday morning, 11 September 2010 from 9 a.m. to noon, and the Young Professional Division competitioni is held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, 11 September 2010.
Awards are presented in a brief Sunday afternoon ceremony on 12 September 2010, which is to be followed by a masterclass involving all three jurors and six finalists. - FH
Sunday Afternoon, 20 March 2011 at 4:00 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church
Elkhart, Indiana
First Presbyterian of Elkhart has a fine 3-manual pipe organ, originally by Schantz (late 1950s) and just recently restored and updated. I've accepted the kind invitation of the music committee to appear as a recitalist on their ongoing organ recital series, which is very generously funded, allowing the concerts to be open to the public free of charge. This concert will have an added personal meaning for me, because it was in this very sanctuary where my spouse and I were wed some 17 years ago! I've been asked to play music of J. S. Bach (after all Bach's birthday - March 21 - is just the day after the concert date) and a few of my own original compositions. It is likely that at least one of my own works on the program shall be given a premiere on this occasion.- FH
